My favorite vacation spot - Cabarete, DR

Cabarete, located approximately 40 km east of Puerto Plata and 20 km east of the POP Airport, is a charismatic little beach town that attracts sports enthusiasts and sun worshippers from all over the world. Until the late 1980's, this town was not much of a town at all, but a vacation area for a few Dominicans from Moca and Santiago. A couple of foreigners discovered the ideal windsurfing conditions in Cabarete Bay, and this secret spot didn't stay secret very long. Since the late 80's the town has hosted both professional and amateur international windsurfing competitions. In 2000, kiteboarding started to take off, and the town has hosted international professional competitions every year since. Cabarete is considered by many to be one of the top places in the world to windsurf and kiteboard, but that's not all that can be done here. You can surf, mountain bike, horseback ride, go canyoning, and take part in so many other adventures, or just simply enjoy the fun in the sun to be found here.

"The Voice," NBC's runaway smash singing competition, has its first winner: Javier Colon.
The American singer and songwriter is of Dominican and Puerto Rican origin and was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. No stranger to the music scene, Colon was a member of EmcQ, The Derek Trucks Band and has worked with several musicians before eventually going solo.
Prior to the show, he was signed to Capitol Records, but is now an independent artist with his own label, Javier Colon Music.
On the show, Colon became an early favorite after auditioning with a terrific rendition of "Time After Time," and he was mentored by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
Colon defeated Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan for the top prize. He will receive $100,000 and a recording contract.
After his victory was announced at the end of the one-hour season finale Wednesday night, the joyful Colon said, "I don't even know where to begin other than to say that the three women behind here are absolutely awesome."
His biggest competitor on the results show was Frampton, mentored by country music star Blake Shelton. The soft-voiced singer came in second place, with only a 2 percent margin separating her and Colon.
During the season finale on NBC, the final 4 singers took to the stage to perform duets with professional artists ranging from Train's lead singer Pat Monahan to rock legend Stevie Nicks.
